This type of centerless grinding is a creepfeed process in which the full depth of material to be ground off is removed in one single pass. The specific material removal rate Qw’ (mm3 per mm wheel width per second) is very high in this process but does depend on the thickness of the workpiece shaft diameter D. The following graph illustrates the ratio between material removal rate and workpiece shaft diameter.

To calculate Qw’ for this process, the following formula is used: (D2- d2) *(p/4) * vf
D = Workpiece blank shaft diameter d = final ground diameter vf = traverse feed rate in mm/sec.
